Splash the Day Away!

Hello Pretty Little Studio friends! I’m so happy to be back sharing another bright and colorful summer layout! This page is titled Splash the Day Away and documents one of those simple summer days spent splashing in the pool.

I started with the Paper Plates 12x12 patterned paper for my background. I love how much detail is already built into this paper with the lines, hearts, dots and mixed-media-style elements. It gives the page so much interest before you even begin adding anything!

From there, I built up lots of colorful layers behind my two photos using papers from the 6x9 Ledger Paper Pack and the 6x6 Accent Paper Pack. I mixed different colors, patterns and sizes, letting pieces peek out from each side of the photo block. I love how all of those layers create a fun, collected look without taking the focus away from the photos.

And because I apparently can’t throw away pretty packaging, I even tucked a piece of packaging from one of the larger embellishment packs into those layers! The colors worked so perfectly with the rest of the page that it deserved a spot on the layout.

My “Splash the Day Away” title is from the Fun in the Sun Word Titles. I placed it right across the lower portion of the photos so it becomes part of the main photo cluster and immediately tells the story of the page.

I used Picnic Stitches Clear Stickers to add even more detail to the background. I really like using clear stickers on a paper like this because they blend right in with the printed mixed-media elements and make it look like even more texture and detail were added to the page.

To embellish the layout, I created lots of little layers and clusters using pieces from the Sunshine Mix Die Cuts, Sun-Filled Frame and Die Cuts, Spring Scallops Die Cuts and Sunbeam Labels Die Cuts. I also added Hello Sunshine Rainbow Word Stickers throughout the design for small pops of color and fun little sentiments.

I love how all of the different papers, labels, scallops, stickers and die cuts came together around the photos. There are lots of little details to discover, but repeating the bright colors throughout the page keeps everything cohesive and lets the photos remain the star.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope this layout inspires you to layer up your patterned papers and embellishments—and maybe take a second look at that pretty packaging before it lands in the trash!

Happy scrapping!

I’m also a proud mom of two adult sons who have already flown the nest. I’ve been passionate about scrapbooking for more than 25 years and love it just as much today as when I first started. While 12x12 layouts are my favorite format, I also enjoy creating mini albums and creative listing. I love attending retreats and taking classes to learn new techniques and connect with other makers. For me, scrapbooking isn’t just a hobby -- it’s a lifestyle rooted in storytelling, photo taking and preserving the little moments that matter most.
