Splish Splashing into Summer with the You Are My Sunshine Collection

Hello Pretty Little Studio friends! I'm Deborah, and I'm beyond excited to be sharing my very first project as a member of the Pretty Little Studio Creative Team! It's truly an honor to join such a talented group of designers, and I couldn't think of a better collection than You Are My Sunshine to kick things off.


For my first layout, I chose one of my favorite childhood photos of my daughter, Hailey. Captured during one of her very first adventures in the water, her huge smile and excitement immediately brought me back to that carefree summer day. It's those everyday moments that often become my favorite stories to scrapbook, and the cheerful colors in the You Are My Sunshine collection were the perfect way to bring this memory to life.


I started with the Lazy Days 12x12 patterned paper as my background. One of my favorite things about this paper is the beautiful pre-printed layered borders at the top and bottom of the page. They frame the layout perfectly and provide wonderful texture while leaving plenty of space in the center to build my design.


My 3½" × 5" photo is matted with a soft blue patterned paper from the 6x9 Paper Pack, helping it stand out against the background while coordinating with the blue tones throughout the layout. I then added two torn strips of patterned paper across the page, creating colorful horizontal layers that add texture, interest and a playful feel giving my photo a colorful place to sit within the design.


The bold Splish Splash title from the Just Peachy Word Titles Die Cuts pack became the focal point of the layout and perfectly captures the excitement of this sweet memory. I used two of the Lazy Days Die Cut Labels to build layers around my photo and added a few Berry Sweet Label Stickers to bring in fun phrases that complement the story and tie the design together.



One of my favorite details is the four stitched hearts scattered around the layout. Three are from the Lemonade Mix Die Cuts pack, and I fussy cut one more from the Sunny Hearts Cut Aparts sheet to complete the design. I love mixing products this way to get exactly the look I want while repeating the heart motif to add balance, texture and movement across the layout.


To finish everything off, I tucked one of the adorable tabs from the Lemonade Mix Die Cuts pack behind my photo, added two delicate butterflies from the Butterfly Wings Die Cuts pack and scattered several of the tiny hearts from the Lemonade Mix Die Cuts pack throughout the page. These finishing touches add movement, color and a bit of whimsy while keeping the focus on this happy summer memory.

When I’m not at my craft table, I work full-time as a Construction Project Manager, overseeing new store openings and remodels for a fast-growing retail brand.
