Creating a Fall Layout with a Non-Fall Collection

Hello, Pretty Little Studio friends! I'm excited to be on the blog today sharing my take on the October challenge, "Create a Fall layout with a Non-Fall collection". And....I did it all with one piece of paper!  I chose a collage paper from the Sunkissed collection called Orange Smoothie.  I decided to use repeating hexagon shapes. I wanted the patterns and colors on the shapes to be unique, so I took one 1 1/2" hexagon diecut, flipped my paper over to the backside, and randomly traced hexagons all over the paper.  Next, I cut out those hexagons and sorted them by pattern/color (ex: plaid, newsprint, white print, etc.). I started in the middle of my white cardstock, and I arranged the hexagons into a pattern I liked.  Since I hand-cut these shapes, they won't fit together perfectly, so I left a bit of white space between each hexagon. I always like to include a bit of hand stitching, so I chose a few hexagons and stitched around the edges with black embroidery thread. I used my black gel pen to draw lighter lines around the edges of the remaining hexagons.  I then added black punched stars to a few hexagons and, to continue the theme, stenciled black stars around the background. I wanted the hexagons to be the star of the show, so I didn't want to add too many embellishments. I chose to back my 2" x 3" photo with black cardstock and added a die-cut journaling block, black saying label, and large black star with a smaller star cut from the same Orange Smoothie paper. I backed the layout with black cardstock and added a hand-drawn border with my black gel pen.

What do you think? I'm so happy with the result. Challenge yourself to create a Fall layout with a non-Fall collection.  Our design team has created some amazing layouts for this challenge. You can view them all here on the blog or on the Pretty Little Studio Fans Facebook group.  We would love to see what you create!

Happy Scrapping!
