Large Photo Swimming Layout / Sunkissed Collection

Hiya Pretty Little Studio fans! Suzanna here today to share with you my first blog post as a PLS DT member! I'm so excited to be here and share my creative endeavors with you. Today I'm sharing a large photo, swimming layout created with the Sunshine collection. If you know me and have followed me for some time, you will know that my kids were both competitive swimmers. Yes, were, neither one competes any more. But there were many, MANY years of swimming layouts. And if you knew about the swimmers, you also know my love of large photos. Nothing has changed in that regard!

Here's a look at the full layout;

As you can see, the whole 12x12 page is a 12x12 photo. With this as my base, I built on top of the photo. About an inch and a half of the "Happiness" paper tops the layout, along with the triangle pennants from the Snowcone Die-Cut Borders. They look like the turn flags that stretch across the pool so I had to find a way to get them in!

An important design element that I almost always follow is that of the visual triangle (if you've listened to any of my YouTube videos, you know, I talk about it A LOT). There are three clusters of embellishments that lead your eye around the page. Sometimes my clusters will be the same or similar but more often than not, each is distinct and unique. As they are here. I do like to keep something consistent or have two with similar content.

This bottom/left cluster has the circles and stars, though different sizes, similar to the top/right cluster and the label to the bottom/right cluster. Of note, I put the dark blue almost circle that says "Just Add Water" (and what I'm using as my title) where it is as it's similar in contrast to my sons head and the weight of the two in close proximity create balance to the larger top/right circles and the white space in the open water in the center of the page. There's always a reason for why things are where they are.

While this bottom/right cluster has the colored banner from the Chill Out, Word Flag Cut Aparts, in common with the top/right cluster. In addition to the unique Cut Apart yellow heart and a phrase from the Just Peachy Word Titles Die Cuts.

All three clusters have an element that is popped up on double sided foam adhesive. I like some dimension in my projects.

I hope you are inspired to use the wonderful bright colors of the Sunshine collection and explore the endless possibilities that creating on a full sized photo can offer! Be sure to head to my personal YouTube Channel for the process video, if you are so inclined and like that kind of thing.

See you back here next time!

My name is Suzanna and I live with my husband and 2 cats in Glen Allen, Virginia. My kids attend the University of AZ and occasionally remember to send their Mum some pleaded for pics so that they too can appear in the memorykeeping. I have been creating and documenting for a long time!  My main focus had always been creating 12x12 layouts but as life changes (kids grow up and move out) so too does my project size. I began using a memory planner in 2022 and have been hooked ever since – it’s my favorite format of documenting the stories and photos of daily life. We have been traveling more and the intent is to put each trip in a 6x8 album. I’ve been filming process videos and sharing my process on YouTube since 2016. I love to travel, read, hike and cook/eat when I'm not at my craft table creating. I suppose I like to work out too but more begrudgingly than lovingly! LOL!
