Hello Fall, You're My Favorite! Scrapbook Design Team Inspiration
Hello, crafty friends!
I'm back today sharing a new scrapbook layout celebrating some of my favorite little things about fall! From cozy evenings outdoors to pretty autumn flowers and pumpkins, there is just something about this season that makes me want to document all the little details.
For today's layout, I wanted to focus on mixing patterned papers, layering and adding texture through hand stitching and dimensional embellishments. I love creating pages that are full of color and pattern while still allowing my photos and memories to be the star of the show!
Creating with the Pretty Little Studio Frosty Collection, I joined this month’s challenge - Capture Fall using a non Fall collection. Hope you’ll create one and join the fun in our facebook group. We love seeing what you create! Click the pink button under this post to check out our Facebook group.
Building the Background with Patterned Paper
All papers I used to create are from the Pretty Little Studio Frosty Collection. I started with a white cardstock background layered over a patterned paper featuring tiny colorful hearts - You Melt My Heart. I love how this creates a subtle border around the page and introduces the colors used throughout my design. I stitched a rectangular border around the white card stock using a warm brown thread. Hand stitching is one of my favorite ways to add texture to a layout, and I especially love how it frames the design without competing with the other elements.
Next, I began building my background using several coordinating patterned papers. I chose a mix of stripes - North Pole patterned paper, gingham Frosty 6x6 paper and playful heart prints - Warm Heart patterned paper. One of my favorite design techniques is combining patterns of different scales. The bold stripes provide structure, while the smaller heart patterns and gingham add a playful touch.
I arranged the papers in a loose vertical design, overlapping them at different heights to create movement and dimension. I also incorporated a few banner-style ends to soften the straight edges and add a fun touch.
Layering the Photos
For this layout, I chose two photos documenting some of my favorite signs of Fall. I positioned the photos side by side near the center of the page and layered them over a subtle grid-patterned paper, Icicles patterned paper. This creates separation between the photos and the busier patterned papers underneath. I love using a simple photo arrangement when my background includes lots of patterns and embellishments. It gives the eye a natural place to rest while keeping the memories front and center.
Adding Florals, Hearts, and Dimension
Once my photos were in place, it was time for my favorite part—embellishing! I created a floral cluster toward the lower left side of my photos using layered die-cut flowers using Frosty 6x6 patterns and die cut hearts from Frosty Warm Hearts Diecuts. The navy floral pieces add a beautiful contrast against the lighter patterned papers, while the mustard gingham flowers and colorful hearts help tie the entire color palette together.
I also tucked a large bracket-shaped die cut from Frosty Oh What Fun Bracket Tags and DieCuts pack along the left side of the photos to add another interesting shape and bring attention to the central design. At the top of the page, I added a small natural twine bow. This little detail brings in additional texture and balances the embellishment cluster at the bottom.
Creating a Statement Title
My title, "Hello Fall, You're My Favorite," was the perfect choice for documenting these seasonal favorites! I positioned it along the lower right side of my photos, allowing it to overlap the patterned papers and become part of the layered design.
I especially love the combination of the Pretty Little Studio mini alpha letter stickers in mustard & larger bold lettering of the title from the Frosty Winter Wishes Word Diecuts pack. Mixing fonts and letter sizes gives the title plenty of personality!
To finish, I added three small phrase strips reading Love This, Cozy & Warm, and Sweater Weather cut from Frosty Cozy Weather Word Flags and adhered them with metal brads. These little details add another layer of storytelling without requiring additional journaling.
A little personal note about me — I do love journaling and always write a story on the back of each layout - in case you’re wondering where my journaling is. I enjoy telling the story and writing on the back allows me to be very personal with each layout. I often write way more than can be included in the design
For me, scrapbooking is about so much more than documenting big events and special occasions. It's also about preserving the everyday details that make each season memorable - a warm frothy coffee outside, colorful autumn flowers, cozy evenings, and the simple beauty of fall are all moments worth remembering!
I hope today's layout inspires you to pull out your favorite patterned papers, mix things up, and document a few of the little things you love about this season.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
