Fall Cardmaking: Give Thanks
Mary Jo Johnston • October 15, 2026

There's so much magic in fall cardmaking!

The warm colors, cozy patterns, pumpkins, and beautiful autumn leaves make this season one of my favorite times to get creative. Fall is all about slowing down, enjoying the little things, and showing gratitude for the people who make life special. What better way to celebrate than with a handmade card that captures all the beauty of the season?

For this card, I reached for the Ginger Snap collection from Pretty Little Studio, and I absolutely love how its beautiful autumn colors come together to create a cozy, harvest-inspired design!

Who can resist a dimensional pumpkin shaker? The layered pumpkin shape creates movement and dimension while giving the perfect opportunity to add a little interactive fun. Filled with colorful shaker bits in shades of orange, yellow, and green, they pair perfectly with the beautiful colors of the Ginger Snap Collection.

To build the background, I layered the gorgeous patterned papers from the Ginger Snap collection. The soft blue-gray paper featuring autumn illustrations creates a beautiful contrast against the warm golden-yellow cardstock and the orange and cream plaid. I added a decorative scalloped edge to frame the plaid panel, giving the design an extra touch of texture and detail.

The floral pumpkin patterned paper is one of my favorite elements! The delicate flowers, leaves, and rich fall tones add so much interest to the pumpkin while keeping the overall design soft and elegant. A few layered autumn leaves, delicate brown flourishes, and a rich brown bow finish the pumpkin beautifully. The orange give thanks sentiment ties everything together and makes this card perfect for sharing a little gratitude.

One of my favorite things about patterned paper collections is discovering how different prints can work together. Don't be afraid to mix a bold plaid with a smaller print or pair a colorful floral with a more subtle background. Pulling colors from one pattern and repeating them throughout your card is an easy way to create a coordinated look.

Whether you're creating Thanksgiving cards, sending a thank you to a friend, or simply celebrating your love of all things autumn, the Ginger Snap collection has so many possibilities to explore.

Happy fall cardmaking!

Hi, I'm Mary Jo Johnston, and I've been paper crafting for more than 20 years. What began as a love for creating scrapbook pages quickly evolved into a passion for cardmaking. I enjoy every part of the creative process, from selecting papers and embellishments to layering the final details that bring a project to life. My favorite part is sharing those handmade creations, giving away one-of-a-kind works of art and being able to brighten someone's day or celebrate life's meaningful moments. I'm beyond excited to be designing for Pretty Little Studio and sharing creative inspiration using their beautiful collections.
