Hello Pretty Little Studio friends! I’m so happy to be back sharing another layout using the bright and cheerful You Are My Sunshine collection! This page features three photos of my daughter, Hailey, splashing and playing in the pool. Her big smiles and wet hair tell the story perfectly, and the playful colors and summertime elements in this collection were such a fun match for these photos.

I started with the Fly a Kite paper from the You Are My Sunshine 12x12 Mixed Paper Pack for my background. I absolutely love the grid design and all of the details already printed on this paper. It looks like you spent time adding mixed media, stitching and little embellishments around the page when all of that work is already done for you! It gave me a fun, detailed background while still leaving plenty of room to build my design.



I chose three photos from our pool day, all printed with a white border to help them stand out from the colorful patterns. I arranged them together near the center of the page, overlapping them slightly to create one large focal point. Behind and around the photos, I layered several of the colorful Frisbee Frames Die Cuts. I love how the open frames allow the grid background to show through while adding lots of color, pattern and dimension.

Because there was already so much going on with the background, I didn’t want to cover it up with a traditional journaling block. Instead, I printed my journaling onto clear sticker paper and added it directly to the background. I love how this allowed me to include the story while letting the grid and all of those fun printed details remain visible underneath.

I also tucked pieces from the Lemonade Mixed Die Cuts around my photos and layered in additional patterns from the You Are My Sunshine 6x9 Accent Paper Pack. The combination of reds, oranges, yellows, greens and blues works perfectly with the bright colors in Hailey’s swimsuit and pool toys.

For my title, I used the “Add Water” piece from the Just Peachy Word Title Die Cuts. I love the bold navy lettering against all of the softer colors on the page, and the phrase couldn’t have been more perfect for these photos! I also added the smaller “summer” and “splash” words around the photos to continue the fun pool-day theme.

To finish the layout, I added several Sunny Stitches Clear Stickers throughout the page. The little hearts and other colorful details were perfect for filling in a few spaces and adding another layer of interest without covering up all of those wonderful details already printed on the background.

I love how this page came together! The playful frames, bright colors and fun little details of the You Are My Sunshine collection capture the carefree feeling of a summer afternoon spent splashing in the pool.
